Newcastle disease (ND)
Newcastle disease, also known as avian pseudo-plague, is a viral disease of the Paramyxoviridae family. It is contagious and legally reportable, and it affects several species of birds, both domestic and wild. The disease can cause high mortality, respiratory, digestive and nervous disorders, and, in laying hens, a drop in egg production along with poorer egg quality.
